We are at War

It was on September 20, 2001, that then President Bush said the following, ‘Our war on terror begins with Al-Qaeda, but it does not end there. It will not end until every terrorist group of global reach has been found, stopped and defeated.’ This is when he officially stated that the United States was at war with terror. This statement was made because of the atrocities that happened just 9 days before that statement.

It is interesting to note how many times we have been reminded that we are still at war with terror. As we listen to the news and find out about another country that has been struck by the snake of terror or when we find out about a “homegrown” terrorist that has violated the trust of co-workers and killed many in the name of their so called god. But it seems that we are continually being reminded of the war that we are in. I think that the reason for this is because if we are not careful, we will just go about our lives and live as if everything is ok.

This is not only true about our physical lives, but this is also true about our spiritual lives. WE ARE AT WAR!

God declared war in Genesis, the Bible tells us in the 3rd chapter of that great book that war was declared upon Satan and sin.

Genesis 3.15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

We also find that in 1 John that Jesus came to destroy the works of the Devil.

1 John 3:8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose, the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.

I think that it is important for all of to remember that we are at war spiritually. It is so easy to forget because we do not see the enemy, we do not see the war that is before us. Though we may not be able to see the war, no doubt the war is happening. The key is to understand how to win the war. Just like our government wants to know as much about the tactics of the enemy it is facing, we as Christians ought to know about the spiritual enemies tactics.

Satan is the ultimate thief.

John 10:10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

The one thing that Satan wants to do is to steal from you. Here are something that Satan wants to try and steal from you:

  • Joy
  • Peace
  • Security
  • Boldness
  • Intimacy with Jesus
  • Love and fellowship with other believers

These are all things that Satan wants to take from you.

Satan is the ultimate destroyer.

John 10:10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

This is another tactic of Satan, he wants to destroy you!

1Peter 5.8Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

The main thing that Satan wants to destroy is:

  • Your testimony

The greatest win for Satan and the most effective tool for Satan is for a Christian who has had their testimony destroyed and continually lives in sin. When this happens to a believer in Jesus, they become a poster child for Satan, and he uses them to keep others from coming to Christ.

Friends, remember WE ARE AT WAR! The war for us will not be over until Christ comes back and calls us home.

A call to action:

Stay vigilant, stay on guard, stay on the offensive and stay grounded in your fellowship with Christ.
